WASHINGTON-- Today, the Health Care Cost Institute (HCCI) Governing Board announced it had selected Katie Martin as its next President and Chief Executive Officer. Martin is a nationally recognized leader in health policy, with a career-long commitment to public service; she brings evidence and analytics to the most critical health policy decisions. She has served as Acting Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation, and Counselor to the Secretary, of the federal Department of Health and Human Services. Since joining HCCI in 2019, she has been a senior fellow and, most recently, the Chief Operating Officer. Martin's previous experience also includes Vice President for Health Policy at the National Partnership for Women and Families, and more than ten years as a policy analyst and branch chief at the Office of Management and Budget under Presidents Bush and Obama.

Announcing the Board's decision today, Kathe Fox, Chair of the HCCI Governing Board said, "We are thrilled that Katie will be leading HCCI through its next chapter, staying focused on the organization's commitment to rigorous policy relevant research by external researchers and our own staff with the goal of improving our national understanding of health care costs, access, and quality."

Katie succeeds Niall Brennan, who is stepping down after more than four years. During Brennan's tenure, HCCI's impact has grown substantially as the organization has become a critical resource for researchers, policymakers, the media, and the public. He oversaw innovative efforts such as the North Carolina multi-payer project and continued the growth and evolution of HCCI's flagship products: the Healthy Marketplace Index and Health Care Cost and Utilization Report.

"With Niall's leadership, HCCI solidified its reputation as a best-in-class independent, non-partisan research entity. He has taken HCCI and its impact to the next level. We now look forward to having Katie build on that progress to lead HCCI into the future," Fox added.
